A couple of weeks ago, I told you about my 1,563 unread emails.
Today? I’m down to 103. Not zero yet—but no longer drowning.

That shift didn’t happen because I suddenly became “more disciplined.”

It happened because I made the first steps to tackle it. (The first step always takes the most energy—but the return is bigger, because accomplishment gives energy back.) From there, I used that accumulated energy to build systems and new habits—shaping a new identity. (That part takes energy too, but now you’re not running on empty.)

And here’s the truth I see with clients all the time:
Most think they want energy to deal with the piles of things left undone—the stuff they never had the time or energy to handle before.

But here’s the problem
 that’s just not motivating enough to make you change your habits, let alone life.

Energy grows when you’re pulled by desire, not just pushed by backlog.

So instead of only asking:
👉 “How do I clear the piles?”
Start asking:
👉 “Who do I want to be in 6 months
 a year
 5 years?”

Let yourself dream beyond the undone tasks. Write it down. Don’t judge. Don’t edit. Just let it flow.

Then, each morning, read it. Make it part of your morning ritual to generate energy for the day.

At first you’ll feel resistance—“Is this even possible? Do I deserve it?”
By week two, you’ll feel something different: a spark.
That spark is the energy that makes change inevitable.

And the piles? They’ll shrink. One shelf, one email, one task at a time—while you walk toward a vision that actually excites you.

❓You ask about energy, I answer

Q: "If I could follow the energy planner (doubtful) how would I keep from the exhaustion of doing the planner?" Anne

A: Any change requires energy—and yes, the planner does ask a lot at first:

  • printing it out
  • setting alarms with reminders
  • checking in every hour with “How do I feel from 1–10?”
  • noting what made your energy go up or down
  • analyzing the patterns

That’s a lot—especially if you downloaded the planner because your energy is already running low. I get it.

Here’s the coaching principle I always teach: we start with what you have and what you’re capable of right now. Small wins give you energy back. Then you build from there.

So instead of all-or-nothing, try this:

  • Don’t print it—use a scrap of paper or a note in your phone.
  • Set just one alarm a day, or maybe three, instead of every hour.
  • Simply notice how you feel, no analysis needed.

That’s it. Start there. When the simplest, most energy-affordable actions begin giving you a return, you’ll naturally have more capacity to layer in the next step.

The key is grace. Don’t push for what you can’t yet do. Be your own ally. Play on your own team. That’s the foundation of an energetic life—and it’s already in you. You’re just giving yourself time to bring it back.
